Free on the Shore

Free belongs to no one, and to all of Skala Eressos.
If you’ve spent time in this little village on Lesvos, you’ve probably met her: the small, sociable dog who roams the shore by day, supervises the lesbians, and strolls home to spend the night with her pick of the holidaymakers.
Free on the Shore is one spring day through her eyes, from sunrise on Sappho’s Head to sunset at the Chelonian and on into the night. Everyone is out. Free knows everyone and has opinions about all of them. And before the day is done, she may yet pull off her finest piece of matchmaking.
Some islands change you. This one has a dog keeping an eye on things.
A Sappho’s Shore Short Story.
